  17. I've been battling with these problems for a couple of weeks now and they
  18. driving me up the wall... :-(!
  19.  
  20. I've been running AMosaic (v2.0b3) for months with just the occassional
  21. lock-up or "unable to connect to remote host" here and there. Around the
  22. beginning of December AMosaic seemed to start having problems connecting to
  23. anything.  But more than that, it would cause the entire stack to stop
  24. working...
  25.  
  26. Specifically, AMosaic starts up as usual and reads my local HTML page. As
  27. soon as I try to connect to any host, it says that it is sending it's
  28. request to the remote host. At that point a number of things happen to my
  29. TCP/IP setup:
  30.  
  31. 1] After a while, AMosaic will come back and say that it is unable to connect
  32.    to that host. Any other requests will do the same. Quitting AMosaic seems
  33.    to work fine. I've got to thinking that the problem may be occurring when
  34.    the browser attempts to download the page graphics.
  35.  
  36. 2] Trying IBrowse and AWeb, and while they have been more buggy in general,
  37.    both will start and get to a first site and THEN they flake out.
  38.  
  39. 3] More critically, AmiTCP seems to flake out. Specifically, it fails to
  40.    communicate with anything on the InterNet. All clients cannot find any
  41.    things on the net - this includes ping, napsaterm, thor, ncftp, etc.

  43. 4] Ping begins to fail, just as soon as Amosaic starts making trouble,
  44.    returning the following:
  45.  
  46.       ping: sendto: No buffer space available
  47.       ping: wrote cais.com 64 chars, ret=-1
  48.  
  49.    This is my prime method of checking the connection/system to see when
  50.    the failure occurs, a steady stream of successful ping will start
  51.    returning the above lines when the browsers fail.
  52.  
  53. 5] The modem stays connected. (BTW, I'm running PPP 1.30 registered)
  54.  
  55. 6] Running the "StopNet" script or turning the modem power off frequently
  56.    causes my Amiga to lock-up after this problem starts.
  57.  
  58. I am at a loss to figure out what to do.  I have downloaded THOUSANDS of
  59. messages with Thor and Megabytes of data with ALynx with no problems.
  60.  
  61. In attempting to solve this problem, I have...
  62.  
  63. 1] Removed almost all the datatypes on my system (all but the IFF, ILBM,
  64.    AU, ZGIF & JPEG datatypes) and reinstalled those which I am still using.
  65.  
  66. 2] Removed the startup items of Envoy in case they are conflicting. WHY???
  67.  
  68. 3] Removed all the old Mosaic prefs/hotlist/config files (except mime &
  69.    mailcap) in case they're causing the problem.
  70.  
  71. 4] I have reisnstalled AMosaic v2.0b3 and re-installed the old v2.0b1, to no
  72.    avail.
  73.  
  74. 5] I have installed a loaned copy of AmiTCP 4.2 to see if that made a
  75.    difference vs. the 4.0demo I was using.
  76.  
  77. 6] I have removed a slew of commodities/startup patches (MCP, 040 stuff,
  78.    WB patches) with no improvements.
  79.  
  80. 7] Have been running Enforcer and SegTracker and the only problems there
  81.    (like an Enforcer hit when AMosaic tries to go to a home page file that
  82.    isnt there) have nothing to do with locking up AmiTCP.
  83.  
  84. 8] I've reinstalled PPP 1.30 from my registration disk.
  85.  
  86. 9] I've gone through all the configuration variables for AMosaic (I could
  87.    find) and reset them to default or basic settings.
  88.  
  89. I've been guessing that AMosaic/IBrowse/AWeb are doing something which is
  90. causing AmiTCP to flake out.  I'd really appreciate it if anyone can tell
  91. me what might be the problem!
